Feeling Overwhelmed?

If you are anything like me you have been overwhelmed with everything that is going on. You want to make a change but don’t know where or how to start. Some turn to posting opinions on social media, some get active in politics and some may turn to prayer. Just as with so many things in life, there is no right answer. We all have to do what feels best to us in a way that is authentic to who we are.

For me, that looks like focusing on how we treat people in our everyday lives. I believe it ultimately boils down to respect. I am not a therapist, psychology expert or mental health professional but I offer a service that helps people feel good about who they are individually and in their relationships so that they are equipped to handle everyday challenges before they get out of control. When I get too consumed with wanting to change the world, I shut down. But when I put my energy into improving myself by honoring my strengths in order to have a positive impact on the world around me, I feel like I am making a difference the best way I know how to.

We can only give others what we have ourselves.

I have to admit, it feels selfish to suggest that in order to change the world, we should improve our own world. But actually nothing could be further from the truth. It was this Jim Rohn quote that I came across while reading his works that changed my perspective. “The greatest gift we can give someone is our own personal development. I used to say if you will take care of me, I will take care of you. Now I say I will take care of me for you if you will take care of you for me.”

It begins with you.

The world will begin to change when we treat one another with respect, but that cannot happen until we respect ourselves. In order to truly live with respect we need to have a strong emotional intelligence. I learned this the hard way so it is now my mission to help others follow the path to empowerment I wish I would have had to avoid thinking I needed to be more like someone else in order to measure up and be accepted. At the end of the day we all just want to be loved, supported and accepted but too many feel judged, ridiculed and even bullied due to the lack of self-respect felt by others.

No matter where you are in your personal-improvement journey, increased emotional intelligence that results in a stronger sense of self benefits everyone in your world which ends up impacting the respect felt in the world.
